Slash

A slanted cut through the outer and inner barks that reveals characters useful in tree identification.

Small trees

A tree of Lecythidaceae that usually grows to a maximum height of around 10 meters and can sometimes even appear to have a shrub-like habit.

Specimen image

An image taken of the parts of the plant that will compose the specimen deposited in the herbarium after the collection is mounted. This specimen should show what the specimens look like before being dried and mounted and/or added to the fruit collection.

Staminal tube zygomorphic

The prolongation of one side of the staminal tube of species of Cariniana.

Stem

The ultimate leaf-bearing branch of a plant.
