Pachycaul

A type of growth form in which the tree is unbranched (monocaulis) or sparsely branched, the stems are thick, and the leaves very large.

Petiole cross-section

A section made at right angles to the long axis of the petiole at its junction with the leaf

Plant holder for photography

A device for holding a plant part in place for the purpose of taking images of it.

Pneumatophore

An erect, aerial "breathing" root found in species of wet habitats such as mangrove swamps and along periodically inundated river banks.

Proximal

Near to the place of attachment. Opposite of distal. Same as basal.
