Fruits and seeds of Cariniana ianeirensis.
Fruit and seeds of Cariniana ianeirensis based on Jardim et al. 4652 from Bahia, Brazil. Note that the seeds are oriented the way they are attached in the fruit, i.e., at the tip of the seed wing. This image represents a single fruit cut in medial longitudinal section by the collector.
Outer surface of a pericarp of Cariniana ianeirensis.
The external surface of the pericarp of Cariniana ianeirensis based on Jardim et al. 4652 from Bahia, Brazil. The fruit surface of this individual is so densely white lenticellate that the lenticels are nearly touching one another. Other fruits are also densely lenticellate but somewhat less so than in this individual.

Close-up of seeds of Cariniana ianeirensis based on Jardim et al. 4652 from Bahia, Brazil. The seed on the left is 1.6 cm long. Note that the seed is rounded and narrowly carinate on the surface away from the columella (seed on left) and more-or-less flat on the surface facing the columella (seed on right).
Apex of seeds of Cariniana ianeirensis.
Close-up of the proximal end of the seed wing of Cariniana ianeirensis based on Jardim et al. 4652 from Bahia, Brazil. This is the end of the seed wing that is attached to the columella and is oriented toward the base of the fruit. The line running through the wing is the funicle.
