Androecium zygomorphic
Primary tabs
The prolongation of one side of the staminal ring of species of all zygmorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae except in species of Cariniana.
Notes:
Zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae are only found in the Neotropics where there are two different kinds of zygomorphic flowers, in this type the staminal ring is expanded from one side of a staminal ring which is a donut-shaped ring that surrounds the ovary from which the fertile stamens arise. See staminal tube zygmorphic for a definition of the other type. In both types of zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae, the prolongation or expansion is thought to arise from the abaxial side of the androceum (Tsou & Mori, 2008).
