Leaves of eastern Brazilian species of Cariniana.
Leaves of the eastern Brazilian species of Cariniana. All shown in abaxial views except C. ianeirensis which is in adaxial view. Note that the leaves of C. legalis and C. parvifolia are the only species of Cariniana that consistently have revolute leaf blade bases. These domatia are present in fresh leaves from a very early age and appear to be occupied by mites (S. A. Mori, field observatons).
Leaf of Cariniana ianeirensis.
Leaf blade of Cariniana ianeirensis based on M. Lemes et al. s.n. from the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This appears to be a relatively newly flushed leaf arising from green stems with very few lenticels.
Base of a leaf of Cariniana ianeirensis.
Petiole and base of leaf blade of Cariniana ianeirensis based on M. Lemes et al. s.n. from the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Note that the leaf blade is very narrowly decurrent onto the petiole.
