Stem
Primary tabs
The ultimate leaf-bearing branch of a plant.
Notes:
Neotropical Lecythidaceae have one to many branches. In a single-branched species, such as Gustavia monocaulis, the first and only branch is called the trunk (= bole). In a multi-branched species the ultimate branch is the stem. For example, the first branch order equals the trunk, the next branch order is the second and so on until the last branch order which is the stem. Stem diameters are measured directly under the first (most proximal) leaf.
