Description: 

Trunk of Cariniana ianeirensis based on M. Lemes et al. s.n. from the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Note the cacti which indicate a drier habit than most species of Lecythidaceae are found in and the pasture suggesting that this individual is most likely a tree left after deforestation. Note that the bark is very shallowly fissured.
